In the ancient world, merit is a good thing. Even a saint cannot refuse boundless merit.
Nuwa gained boundless merit by creating human beings, and thus became a saint in one fell swoop.
The Taiqing Sage Laozi, Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian Sect each founded their own religions and also gained boundless merits, thus achieving sainthood in one fell swoop.
Although Zhunti and Jie Yin in the West founded religions, due to their insufficient merits, they had to make great vows before they could finally attain enlightenment and become saints.
From this we can see that merit and virtue actually played a huge role in the process of the six saints attaining enlightenment and becoming saints.
