Ethan Bennett ran another five miles in the rain. Even though he was wearing a straw raincoat, when he arrived at the pharmacy he was as wet as if he had been fished out of the water. He didn't care about anything else and hurried to add water following the faint light of the fire. Sure enough, the water in the stove was almost boiled and crackling sounds kept coming from the steamer.
After adding water, he felt relieved and sat down to take a breath. Looking at the wind and rain outside, he lit a candle in the house and put the wet clothes on the steamer to dry, intending to spend the night there.
Ethan Bennett was warming himself by the stove when someone suddenly knocked on the door. He was startled. It was raining so heavily. Could it be that Xu Jianqing had followed him?
He hurried to open the door, and when he opened it, it turned out to be Jiang Zhuxing. Ethan Bennett settled his horse in the empty medicine shed outside the house, pulled Jiang Zhuxing in, handed him a handkerchief, and asked with concern: "Brother Jiang, it's raining so hard, what are you doing here..."
"I heard that you came in the rain to put out the fire. I was afraid something might happen, so I came to take a look." Jiang Zhuxing wiped his face hastily, took off his hat, and found a place to sit down.
