Artillery fire roared, smoke and dust billowed, but whether it was the last roar of the soldiers in their desperate struggle, or the special whistle of the insects calling their friends when they were killed, in the vacuum of the universe where sound could not be transmitted, they could only be like an old black and white movie, epic and heroic, but terrifyingly silent.
