It rained heavily for two whole days. It seemed as if the sky had opened up and the rain poured down like a waterfall. The water levels of rivers in Shaling County rose sharply and even flooded some farmland.
On the third day, the dark clouds finally dispersed and the sky began to clear up.
The young and strong checked the farm and found seven or eight streams running through it. The troughs for cattle and sheep were filled with rainwater. There were puddles of all sizes hidden under the tall grass, some shallow enough to barely reach the soles of the feet, and some deep enough to reach the knees. An adult would sprain their ankle if they stepped into one, not to mention a child who had just passed the wheel.
Grandma Sun and the other women told the children to be careful when going out, to avoid puddles when they came across them, and not to be playful or curious.
Xiong Bo led his men to clean up the threshing ground and transported the grains out of the warehouse in batches to dry in the sun. The women cleaned the millstones and stone grinders, and moved out the stone mortars and pestles, intending to use them together with the millstones to pound the grains.
