The Xiongnu army of 140,000 invaded the border. When they came, drums and horns sounded, and they were mighty and powerful. They destroyed the Han fortresses one after another. Their morale was high and their military might was unparalleled.
Unexpectedly, when the troops arrived at Mayi, they stumbled into an ambush of the Han army. The army was surrounded and killed, and many of their soldiers and generals were killed.
Junchen Chanyu led the way, and the elite Xiongnu soldiers risked their lives to finally open a gap in the encirclement. However, the Han army reacted quickly and did not care about their lives, so the gap was quickly closed.
More than 60,000 Hu cavalry were trapped in the valley, and less than 80,000 rushed out.
The defeated armies led by the Great Chanyu and the four corners of the royal court also failed to return to the grassland smoothly.
