The Huns came quickly.

On the third day after Evan Zhao entered the city, a dangerous situation occurred in the fortress built on the west side of Hu City, and black smoke rose from the beacon tower.

The lieutenant stationed nearby sent an urgent report to the city that a group of Xiongnu cavalry had sneaked into the county border and tried to bypass the fortress and go south from the junction of Wuyuan County and Yunzhong County. The action was not confidential enough and was intercepted by the border troops stationed here.

In an encounter, the cavalry fled after leaving behind five corpses, and ten of the border troops were killed or wounded. The lieutenant led his troops to chase for a distance, but found that a large group of cavalry was approaching, so they had to retreat to the fortress.

After this battle, the Xiongnu realized that the Han army had been prepared for this, and no longer took any chances. Instead of sending out cavalry, they gradually assembled their army, flew the banner of King Youguli, and approached the Yunzhong Fortress and Wuyuan County.
