Evan's Journey Through the Unknown Chapter 4

Evan Drake, who was trapped between two people and three monsters, lowered his eyes and subconsciously tightened his hands behind Leo Vaughn's back. He was muttering in his heart - from the moment these two people saw him, they spoke to him as if he were an ordinary person, and it seemed that they had no idea that he was a blind man.

It seems that these two people did not learn about Evan Drake and Leo Vaughn's information through some channels in advance, otherwise they would have heard something about them. After all, Evan Drake has lived in this area for ten years and his family situation is somewhat special. Most of the neighbors nearby, especially the older ones, know him.

But that's strange. If these two people acted on impulse, why do they look like they're "waiting for you"?

It was Bullsh!t to say that it was related to the neighbor, because no one lived there, and it was impossible to go to the wrong floor, because not only 302, but also 202, 402, and 502 were empty. It was just that in order to make the building look more lively, Evan Drake and his family would buy a few more blessing characters every New Year and paste them on the door of the empty house next door, so it looked like someone lived there.

However, if these two people really came for Evan Drake’s family, what was their purpose?

Evan Drake is a blind man in the eyes of people around him. The good thing about him is that he can take care of himself very well and doesn't need to be taken care of by others. Leo Vaughn is a crazy guy. The two of them make do with each other and barely have a house to live in and food to eat.

This was also thanks to Leo Vaughn's good handwriting and his old acquaintance with Auntie Pang. When Leo Vaughn was less crazy, Auntie Pang often forced him to write a few pieces, and then she framed them and sold them through some channels. The money she got was just enough to ensure that the father and son would not go hungry. When Evan Drake grew up, Auntie Pang also knew about his eye condition. She could not stand his stubbornness and found him a suitable part-time job.

In general, their lives were not too bad, but they were definitely not good either, and it was certainly not the case that they were wealthy enough to attract attention.

Evan Drake frowned even more. The world he was exposed to was really small, and with his limited experience, when he met someone who obviously had bad intentions, all he could think of was robbing them of their money or seeking revenge.

At the moment, these two people are obviously not...

The three monsters staring at Evan Drake beside these two clearly showed that their identities were unusual and far beyond the cognition of normal people. Why would such people come to their door...

Seeing Evan Drake lowered his eyes and said nothing, the short man reached into his shirt pocket, which was the source of the light. He seemed to be trying to take something out, and said with an apologetic smile: "Why don't you say anything, little brother? Did we find the wrong place? Here, look, we copied the address."

Evan Drake lowered his eyes and looked at what the short man took out---

It was a folded piece of paper, and it certainly looked like that.

"Hiss---the light is too dim, and there's no door light or anything..." After the short man took it out, he pretended to complain. The tall man next to him took out his mobile phone, used the screen light to shine, and handed the note to Evan Drake.

Evan Drake took a step back almost reflexively, then supported Leo Vaughn and said calmly, "I don't have any hands to hold it."

"It's okay. We'll hold it for you. Please help us check if this address is here." The short man moved closer to Evan Drake again. "We are not very familiar with this place, and he remembers this address vaguely..."

"Wait a moment." Seeing him holding the note and trying to pass it to him, Evan Drake dodged the note and walked around the tall man. He walked to the door and said, "My eyesight is not very good. I can't see clearly even if I lean over like this. Besides, my dad is not feeling well. I'll open the door and carry him inside before I look."

Evan Drake's tone of voice was still flat, and after he finished speaking, he leaned against the wall to support Leo Vaughn, then freed one hand to take out the key, as if he really intended to open the door like this.

"Hey---it's not convenient for you to open the door like this. Let us help you hold on." The tall man stretched out his hand and wanted to take Leo Vaughn, but Evan Drake waved his hand to block him.

"My dad is crazy. If a stranger touches him, he will wake up and make a scene even if he is asleep." Because he had to support Leo Vaughn, he half-turned his body when he opened the door. His strange eyes were half-closed, and while he was pointing the key at the keyhole, he was paying attention to the actions of the two people with his peripheral vision.

I always feel like...something is not right.

Besides these two people and these three greedy monsters...

While he was thinking about what made people feel wrong, he planned to pull Leo Vaughn over when the door opened, and then push the door shut after he slipped in. If he was lucky enough and fast enough, he might be able to keep them out. After all, in such a situation, if he was surrounded outside the door, he would definitely not be able to escape, but if he got inside, he might still have a little hope.

Obviously, the two men, one tall and one short, were not fools. In the corner of their eyes, they seemed to slightly tilt their heads and exchange glances. The short man still held the note he had taken out from his chest in his hand, while the tall man withdrew his hand that was originally about to help support Leo Vaughn, and then seemed to wave it casually.

As his hand moved, the three monsters with four eyes and long fangs moved back a step almost at the same time, then arched their bodies, and the long hair all over their bodies shook and exploded. They were in a state of being ready at any time, just waiting for the tall man to make a gesture, and then they would pounce on Evan Drake. In less than a few seconds, they would tear both Evan Drake and Leo Vaughn into pieces.

Evan Drake used a little force with the key in his hand and inserted it into the keyhole.

As the "click" sounded, Evan Drake's mind flashed with a flash, and he immediately remembered what was wrong---

From the moment he carried Leo Vaughn into the corridor until now, when he was about to open the door of his own house surrounded by two people and three beasts, there was no other sound in the entire building during such a long period of time. It was so quiet that it was almost eerie.

The houses in this community were all built decades ago, and the builders didn't seem to care about them at all. So the sound insulation is extremely poor. Although there are only six households in the two units of Evan Drake's building, and none of them are on the same floor, every day when walking in the corridor, you can still hear the sounds coming from each family, who is watching TV, who is eating and chatting, who is arguing, you can almost hear almost everything.

It is precisely because of this that this building with very few residents seems to have some liveliness, rather than being as lifeless as a haunted house all day long. It is also because of this that the households in the building rarely quarrel for the sake of face, so as to avoid letting the people on the first floor hear them and lose face. This in turn promotes harmony among the households.

Moreover, although this building has very few residents, it has people of all ages. There are people here at all times, and you can hear some noise from morning to night.

But tonight, it was dinner time, but there was no sound at all. It was as silent as if the entire building was empty, with only Evan Drake left.

However, at this moment when his nerves were tense and his life was directly threatened, Evan Drake had no time to think about these things. He was stunned for a moment, then turned the key. The moment he opened the door, he exerted force with his left hand and almost swung Leo Vaughn into the door. At the same time, he dodged and was about to follow in through the half-open door.

This was probably the fastest speed Evan Drake had ever run in his life, but no matter how fast he ran, it couldn't be faster than the tall man's waving hand.

Three sharp cries like the howling of evil spirits suddenly sounded, and the three monsters, stretched to their limit, rushed forward with a gust of wind carrying a foul smell. In the field of vision, it seemed that all the light and shadow outlines dimmed at that moment, as if they were suddenly covered with a layer of black gauze.

Evan Drake just slipped into the door and was about to slam the door shut, but he was still a step too slow!

He felt something cold pressed against the back of his neck, and the touch was strange and terrifying, causing goose bumps all over his body. The rancid smell slid across his face, enveloping him, and the howling sound was even more abrupt in the extremely silent environment, with heavy echoes and layers of overlapping sounds, piercing his eardrums and causing them to swell and ache.

The feeling of death approaching, even if it was only a fraction of a second, seemed to be stretched to infinity, so long that Evan Drake seemed to have countless chaotic fragments and words flashing through his mind at that moment, but because it was too chaotic and too fast, it was crowded into a large blank. The only clear sentence was not "too late" or "can't escape", but a distant and almost ethereal voice, the tone was low and vague, familiar but somewhat strange, as if it had passed through thousands of years of vicissitudes...

He said, "I'll come find you..."

I will come to you no matter how many thousands of years it takes...
