Ben was caught off guard to hear Evor say this.
Perhaps it was because Adrian gave people the impression that she was too superior and too conceited. Not only Ervin, but even Ben sometimes felt that Adrian was not from the same world as them.
Ben originally thought that Adrian and Ervin were just bed partners - Adrian was interested in Ervin's body, and Ervin was in the low period of heartbreak. They were both adults, and there was nothing wrong with each getting what they wanted. Besides, Adrian was attractive to both men and women, and if he wanted to seduce someone, few could stop him. Ben was not surprised that Ervin would fall for him, but Ben did not expect that Adrian would admit in person that he was in love with Ervin.
When in love, foreigners may say "like", "infatuated", "like" many times, but seldom say "love". Even for someone as rigorous as Adrian, hearing the word "love" from him makes Ben feel unreal.
However, although this fact was beyond Ben's expectations, it seemed reasonable.
