Ben was going out to play alone, so the afternoon became the world of the two of Ervin and Ailan. They lay in bed until almost noon before lazily getting up to eat brunch.
It was a very good day. The winter sun shone into the hotel restaurant lobby through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Ervin and Adrian sat by the window, basking in the rare warmth.
"Would you like to try 'Black Egg and Pork Porridge'?" Ervin asked Adrian while flipping through the menu. The "Black Egg and Pork Porridge" he mentioned is actually "Century Egg and Lean Meat Porridge", a classic among Cantonese porridges.
Evor: "Black eggs? Is that what you mean? The translation on the menu is 'hundred-year-old eggs'."
The corner of Ervin's mouth twitched. It was true. The hotel's menu was in Chinese and English, and there was a translation of preserved egg on it: 100-year-egg.
