The sunlight shines through the window onto the corner of the blackboard. The classroom is so quiet that only the soft sound of lectures flows slowly.
"The Gaia hypothesis is a theory that compares the world we live in to a self-regulating living organism - although it does not mean that the world really has self-awareness, it is just a metaphor to illustrate the complex and coherent interaction between living organisms and the natural environment..."
Perhaps every teacher has the potential to talk about everything from humanities and politics to celestial mechanics in class. Aaron Li didn't know how the little girl teacher standing on a small stool at the moment could talk about the Gaia theory from the rhetoric of literary works.
"...But, Sensei, I think it would be more interesting to assume that there is an intelligence in our world that can be called self-will."
The teacher, who was only two heads taller than the podium even with the bench, smiled gently and adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. "What do you think would be the way he would think if this hypothesis came true... Aaron Li?"
