It was still raining when Fletcher Shen returned to the house. He was wearing a wide robe but no clogs. He heard a few muffled thunders in the corridor leading to the bedroom. The damp wind blew on his cheeks through the newly cut window screens. The rhythmic sound of the rain dispelled Fletcher Shen's long-standing depression.
There was a candlestick standing on the side of the small corridor, which was brighter than the bedroom. Fletcher Shen seemed to want to breathe and stood there without moving. The shadow passed through the bamboo curtain and was exposed on the gables of the dormitory. The orange candlelight dimmed his outline, and there was a little red on the side of his neck.
April is the season for growing seedlings. If this spring rain continues, the fields near the Chashi River in Duanzhou may be flooded by the spring floods. Fletcher Shen told Kong Ling about the Duanzhou Dam last month, but he forgot to ask about it today. It was time for Fei Sheng to come back. Fletcher Shen raised the bamboo curtain, looked for the clogs he had kicked off in the dormitory, and prepared to call Fei Sheng in for questioning.
Casper Xiao had already taken off his armor and was lying on the bed with his arms resting on his head, feeling sleepy. He turned over when he heard the noise, and when Lan Zhou was picking up his clogs, he opened the curtain and exposed his head.
Fletcher Shen was caught off guard and got so frightened that his clogs fell off.
