Alex Cong felt someone slap him in his sleep, and he was awakened. When he opened his eyes, he saw Tony Cheng's cold face right in front of him, patting his face to wake him up.
Alex Cong was stunned for a moment, "Are you okay?"
Tony Cheng said, "Get up." Although his voice was hoarse, Alex Cong saw that there was already color on his face.
Alex Cong shouted happily and hugged him, "Brother, you are really okay! You scared me to death." This was the first time he felt happy from the bottom of his heart since the end of the world. He smiled so hard that his two fangs were exposed.
Tony Cheng was stunned. The warmth of Alex Cong's body made him feel very comfortable, but he was not used to physical contact with people. When he woke up and found himself hugging a man he had only known for a few hours, he felt very resistant.
Tony Cheng pushed him away and said, "Let me start." Then he turned his face away and lowered his head to put on his shoes.
Alex Cong came closer, put her head next to Tony Cheng's face, observed him for two seconds, and couldn't help laughing: "Are you embarrassed?"
Tony Cheng glanced at him and asked, "How much nonsense do you have to say?"
Alex Cong smiled and said, "You are such a handsome guy. You must have had no lack of friends since childhood. Why are you so autistic?"
Tony Cheng stood up and stretched his limbs. Although his face looked a little haggard, he did not look like someone who had just been to the gates of hell.
Alex Cong also jumped out of bed, "How long have we slept? You really scared me at that time. You were like an ice cube. The wound must have been infected. Fortunately, you survived. Maybe it has something to do with your body mutation."
Tony Cheng waved his arms and felt an inexplicable energy in his body, making his body lighter and more energetic. When he clenched his fists, he felt even stronger. Every time he took a step, he could feel the strength of his thigh muscles. Even his vision was enhanced, and the scene he saw was as clean and delicate as water washing. If he had to find an adjective to describe his current feeling, it would be reborn.
Alex Cong had long been accustomed to not talking to him all day, but he couldn't stand the two of them being silent. The environment was already depressing enough, and he didn't want to make himself more depressed, so he chattered for a long time, "How do you feel? Are you still cold? I feel that the room is not so cold anymore, maybe the temperature has risen. Are you still feeling uncomfortable now?"
"Hungry." Tony Cheng touched his stomach and felt very hungry.
"Hungry? Uh, I'll go see if there's anything to eat." Alex Cong couldn't help but say "Fcuk" as soon as she walked out of the bedroom.
Tony Cheng chased out and saw that he just happened to bump into Alex Cong's retreating body. He looked over Alex Cong's shoulder and saw that the monkey's body on the living room floor had begun to rot, and it was covered with wriggling maggots. The whole house was filled with a disgusting smell.
No wonder Alex Cong felt sick.
Alex Cong twisted her neck and didn't look at the floor. "We only slept for four hours, just four hours."
In just four hours, the body had decayed to such an extent that the house was no longer habitable.
Tony Cheng walked over and grabbed their backpacks, "Put on your clothes, and let's go out."
"Aren't you hungry? I'll get you something to eat."
"What to eat?"
Alex Cong swallowed her saliva, "There may be some unspoiled items in the vacuum-packed bag."
"Let's talk about it outside." Tony Cheng reluctantly put on a coat that was obviously one or two sizes too small, picked up his things and walked out.
"Wait for me." Alex Cong quickly grabbed her clothes, ran to his side, and followed him closely, fearing that she would be left behind.
The two of them went downstairs quickly. Tony Cheng looked at the thermometer and found that the temperature had indeed risen. It was now 17 degrees. At the coldest time, it might have dropped below zero. The traces of ice on the ground had not completely evaporated, proving that hailstones as big as eggs had fallen here a few hours ago during the hottest time of the year.
Alex Cong said, "Let's find a place to sit down and find you something to eat. Don't starve. I just ate so much meat that I'm not hungry at all. You get hungry so quickly."
Tony Cheng was indeed extremely hungry, and he didn't know why he was so hungry, but he didn't show it because he heard some noisy noises around him and he needed to find a safe place before eating.
The two walked out of the community and found that there were obviously more pedestrians on the road. It was now a little after four in the afternoon. It had been exactly 24 hours since the earthquake in Golmud, and this once civilized society had been in chaos.
Within a few hours of their sleep, the grocery stores, small supermarkets, and fruit stalls on both sides of the street were all smashed. When they passed by, they could still see the looted food inside, but most of the food was untouched because it had already gone bad. The two wanted to try their luck in seeing if there was anything edible left, but after a round, the only things that were still edible were the spices and water that were inedible. They took a few bottles of water and continued walking forward in disappointment.
Two cars rushed over from the other side of the street, one after the other. The rear car seemed to be chasing the front car. The two cars were moving forward in a dragon shape and were about to crash into the sidewalk. Tony Cheng quickly pulled Alex Cong aside.
The car in front suddenly crashed into a trash can on the roadside and stalled. Three young and strong men got out of the car behind and kicked and smashed the car door. After opening the door, they dragged out several sealed boxes of biscuit jars. People from the car in front also rushed down, both men and women, and the two groups started fighting in the street for those biscuits.
Alex Cong stared at the scene with wide eyes, her heart filled with sadness.
In just one day, most of the things that were not stored in a vacuum and refrigerated environment had already gone bad. The bacteria were evolving at an extremely rapid rate, not only multiplying faster, but also adapting to low temperatures. It was not difficult to imagine that before long, even the last barrier of vacuum would be breached. Right now, food was the biggest crisis facing everyone.
From the shops that were smashed on the road to the people fighting over a few cans of biscuits, Alex Cong realized how naive his idea of finding something to eat for Tony Cheng was.
It is no longer possible to find food now, and most people have started snatching it.
Alex Cong pulled Tony Cheng and said, "Let's go quickly." They still had some food in their backpacks. What if these people took a fancy to them after they finished fighting?
Tony Cheng looked at the cans of biscuits and his eyes darkened.
Alex Cong urged: "Let's go, let's find a secluded place to eat." When he said this, he lowered his voice to a very low level, for fear that others would know.
Tony Cheng looked down at his military uniform, then retracted his gaze and followed Alex Cong.
The two walked across two streets, found a small supermarket that had been smashed, and hid inside.
The goods in the supermarket were spread out on the ground, looking messy. Alex Cong walked in while paying attention to her feet, hoping to pick up something edible.
Although he was not hungry now, he was very anxious when he thought of Tony Cheng being hungry. In his heart, he had already regarded Tony Cheng as a companion, and even because of his timidity, he had a kind of dependence on Tony Cheng. He knew that if he wanted to go to Beijing to seek refuge with his second uncle, he could not rely on a weak chicken like him. He had to follow Tony Cheng to have a glimmer of hope.
The two of them chose a clean corner and sat down. Before Alex Cong sat down properly, he heard a scream and a rat with a head as big as a human jumped over his legs. Alex Cong was startled and subconsciously leaned towards Tony Cheng.
Tony Cheng quickly drew out his saber and stabbed at the rat, but unfortunately the rat was very agile and very fast, and disappeared in an instant.
Tony Cheng retracted his saber, looking quite regretful.
Alex Cong's face was covered with cold sweat, "We are not so hungry that we have to eat mice."
"Not yet. You'll see in three days."
Alex Cong shuddered, not daring to imagine a scene where one day they would fight over eating mice.
He opened his backpack and took out the bulging food. Not giving up, he tore open the bag to smell it to see if it was edible. However, he was hit by a foul smell that almost made him pass out.
Tony Cheng threw away all the bulging bags and picked out a bag of bacon that was still intact from the vacuum packaging. After tearing it open, he took a big bite and looked really hungry.
Alex Cong found a bottle of water, unscrewed the lid and handed it to him, "Don't eat too fast, and this is very salty."
Tony Cheng took a sip of water and continued to tear the bacon.
The bacon was indeed salty and strong in taste, but he had no choice at this point. His stomach seemed like a bottomless pit and was in urgent need of food. He was so hungry that he began to panic. It didn't seem like he had just eaten a few hours ago, but instead he looked like he had been hungry for three days.
Alex Cong also realized this abnormal situation, "Is your hunger related to your evolution?"
Tony Cheng said: "It must be related."
He forced a bag of bacon into his stomach and Tony Cheng also drank two bottles of water. Although he still felt hungry, he resisted the urge to eat more. The meat was too salty and would affect his next actions.
Alex Cong kept watching him eat, handed him water, and asked softly when he was done: "Are you full?"
Tony Cheng looked at his watch and said, "We have wasted too much time. Let's go."
"Is one bag enough for you? Eat more."
"No, it's too salty." Tony Cheng frowned, "We can't delay any longer, we have to hurry to the airport."
Alex Cong sighed, "I hope I can have fresh food when I get to Beijing."
Tony Cheng didn't say anything, but in his heart he was hoping to get on a plane and leave here as soon as possible. The two of them set off again with the expectation of fresh food in the capital.
