"Animal? How can this be an animal?" Hunter tilted his head and looked towards the puddle.

Nathan ignored him and looked away lazily.

Avery said, "I don't know... Let's go and forget about it." He intuitively felt that the animals that Nathan was talking about must be different from the animals they understood. If he continued to ask, who knew what earth-shattering words Nathan would say.

So the three of them avoided the small puddle and went down the mountain carrying a basket of mushrooms.

Under normal circumstances, mushrooms are best dried before being eaten, as this makes them safer to eat. However, with Nathan here, he said the mushrooms are not poisonous, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Avery washed the mushrooms he had picked with clean water, and then asked Hunter to bring the chicken he had bought to stew the mushrooms here. The chicken was of course not a chick, but a young rooster that had not yet grown up, with tender meat and crisp bones, and it was very fragrant after being stewed with mushrooms.

Hunter picked up the knife, quickly slaughtered the chicken, and squatted on the ground to pluck the chicken.

Avery was just about to get some bran from the house to feed the pigs in the pigsty when his cell phone rang. He picked it up and saw that it was his colleague's number. After hesitating for a moment, he answered it.

"Hello, Zhu Miaomiao, is there anything wrong?" Avery asked.

"Avery, what should we do if you never come back?" The sad cry of Zhu Miaomiao, a colleague of Avery, came from inside, "We all miss you so much."

Avery: "Working overtime?"

Zhu Miaomiao: "I'm dying from overpaying. The worst thing is that I can't recruit anyone. The people I recruit leave within a month. They say that no matter how high the salary is, it won't work. I'll die suddenly."

Avery said, "I definitely can't go back." He tilted his head, talking on the phone while taking the bran for the piglets out of the bag and putting it into the bucket.

"Ah!" Zhu Miaomiao screamed.

Avery asked: "Anything else?"

"Where on earth have you been? I saw that you have given up the house you rented..." Zhu Miaomiao asked.

"I told you, I went back to my hometown to farm." Avery replied, "I just went up the mountain to pick a bunch of mushrooms this afternoon."

"Where is your hometown? I asked my boss for a few days off and want to go out and have some fun." Zhu Miaomiao said.

"Ask for leave? Can you still get leave?" Avery was shocked.

"What? I resigned because he didn't allow me to take leave, but he finally agreed." Zhu Miaomiao said, "Don't say it, I also want to pick mushrooms..."

Avery told her the address of his hometown and told her to call him after she arrived in the county so that he could pick her up, otherwise he was afraid that it would be unsafe for her to take a taxi alone. Zhu Miaomiao agreed and said that she would buy the nearest train ticket immediately.

Avery hung up the phone and went to the pig pen with the feed. After raising the pigs at home for half a month, the little white pigs had grown a lot, but Xiao Hua and Xiao Hei were still the same, with their fluffy hair like chipmunks and no growth at all. Avery looked at them happily eating the feed with their heads down and knocked on the door: "Why don't you gain weight even though you eat so much?"

Xiaohua looked up at Avery, her eyes full of contempt, as if she was looking down on Avery for underestimating their IQ. Can this pig have a good ending after growing meat...

Avery, who was despised by a pig: "......"

"Alas, I thought I would release you back to the forest when you grow up." Avery said helplessly, "Can you please be more motivated?"

"Hum, hum." Xiaohua hummed twice and put down what she was chewing, looking like a rogue who would just stay here and not gain weight.

Avery was speechless, and even wanted to pull the little black kid out of the pigpen and beat him up. In the end, he held back and told himself not to bother with a pig.

The little chicks we just bought are much cuter than these two pigs. They chirp and run around in the yard every day, pecking at the stones and insects on the ground, making the whole yard a lot more lively.

Avery cut the chicken that Hunter had killed into pieces, cleaned it, and stir-fried it in a pot. Then he added water and soy sauce, put in the mushrooms that he had just picked today, and stewed it in a casserole for several hours.

Chicken and mushrooms are a perfect match. Mushrooms are delicious, and the tender chicken makes them even more fragrant. Even though I haven't tasted them yet, my mouth is already watering.

Nathan went to water the fields and came back to tell Avery that the tomatoes at home had already borne fruit and would be ready to eat in two days.

Avery was shocked. It had only been over a month, how could it have come to fruition? He asked, "Is it really done? Will others suspect anything?"

"No." Nathan said, "I explained."

Avery asked: "How do you explain it?"

Nathan said: "I said I used fertilizer pesticides."

Avery: "...They didn't say anything else?"

Nathan shook his head and yawned: "No, he just told me that the taste of vegetables will be bland if fattening agents are used on them, and they will not taste good." Most people in their village grow their own crops and sell them themselves, so naturally they would not add pesticides or the like, after all, they are for their own consumption.

"Oh." Avery didn't know what to say, so he could only say, "Thank you for your hard work. You should eat more at night."

Nathan nodded, looking quite satisfied with Avery's words.

The chicken was stewed for two hours and was completely soft. The mushrooms inside had completely absorbed the chicken's broth. Avery also stir-fried some green peppers, pork shreds and a vegetable, and dinner was ready.

The three of them were very satisfied with the meal. The White Moon Fox ate the chicken without even spitting out the bones. After a few crunching sounds, its white teeth chewed the bones into pieces and swallowed them all.

Hunter muttered quietly to the side that he had very good teeth, and Nathan glared at him with a sidelong look that was very unfriendly, like a wild beast protecting its food.

Avery even suspected that if Hunter ate a little more, Nathan would have an opinion...

After the three of them finished their meal, Hunter returned to his home, and Avery and Nathan sat in the yard to rest. Avery took out the fried melon seeds and braised beef as snacks.

"A friend of mine is coming to visit us in a couple of days." Avery said, "She's a girl and will probably stay here for a few days."

Nathan hummed, looked up at the sky, and said, "Tell her not to run up the mountain."

"Why?" Avery was a little strange.

"Don't go to the mountains recently." White Moon Fox said, "There are many animals in the spring."

Avery immediately remembered the puddle they encountered in the morning that Nathan called an animal. He asked, "What kind of animal is that?"

"I don't remember." White Moon Fox said, "Because it tasted so bad."

Avery: ... It seems that things that are not delicious enough are not even worthy of a name in BaiNathan's place.

"It can remember people's appearance." Nathan said, "as long as you look at it." According to Nathan, water is like a mirror. When a person sticks his head out to look into a puddle, it has already remembered your appearance. And if you happen to be a person when you look at it, it will pull you in, drown you, and eat your soul.

Avery asked: "What will happen if it remembers me?"

White Moon Fox: "I will come to you."

Avery was shocked: "...Then Hunter is in danger!"

Nathan said, "It doesn't matter. This thing usually doesn't come down the mountain. It moves very slowly and only appears in spring. It's a waste." He casually defined this thing, picked up a piece of beef and put it in his mouth. He narrowed his eyes in satisfaction and said, "It's delicious."

Avery was relieved.

When the two of them had almost finished eating the beef, it was getting dark. Avery drove the chicks into the chicken coop and then went back to the house to sleep.

The next morning, it started to rain before dawn. The rain was not heavy, but it fell on the ground, making people even more drowsy. It is said that spring sleep makes one sleepless, so Avery lay on the bed for a while. When he got up, Nathan also got up, standing in the yard, not knowing what he was doing. It must be said that Nathan was a beautiful sight. The raindrops fell on the ends of his hair, as if it had been coated with a layer of slightly shining silver. He was hazy in the rain, as if he was about to ascend to heaven in the next moment.

Avery quietly took a photo with his mobile phone nearby, but Nathan seemed to have noticed something and turned to look at Avery.

"Good morning." Avery put the phone in his pocket and greeted Nathan calmly.

"Okay." White Moon Fox said, "I'll feed the chickens."

"Oh, thank you for your hard work." Avery said, "What would you like to eat in the morning?"

"Let's eat noodles." Nathan said, "I want to eat eggs."

Avery nodded, picked up his apron, tied it on and turned to walk towards the kitchen, when he heard a knock on the door. He thought it was Hunter, so he said come in, but when the door was opened, Zhu Miaomiao's face wet by the rain was revealed.

"Zhu Miaomiao?!" Avery was stunned, "Why didn't you tell me in advance?"

Zhu Miaomiao said, "What are you talking about? I can find it myself." She entered the courtyard gate and saw Nathan standing next to her with a blank expression. She widened her eyes and said, "Avery, you are so good. I was wondering why you were in such a hurry to go back to your hometown. You actually secretly kept a mistress in your golden house!"

Avery: "I'm not, I didn't!"

He thought Nathan would be angry, but he turned around and left without changing his expression, leaving the two of them with a meaningful back view.

Zhu Miaomiao looked at Avery and said, "Tsk, tsk, tsk, you sgumbag. You didn't even give me a name. Look, I'm angry."

Avery: "......"You are really not afraid of death.
