That was my first love, and it happened in the second semester of my freshman year. Her name was Su Xiao, and I met her in the theater troupe. She was from Northeast China, tall and pretty, and always played important roles in the plays we rehearsed. I liked the way she spoke in a rhythmic tone, and her Northeastern accent when she spoke on a daily basis. Because we often rehearsed together, she got along well with everyone, including me. She had a cheerful and straightforward personality, so straightforward that she was the first to confess her love to me.

One night, the troupe rehearsed until very late, and after the rehearsal, we walked back to the dormitory together. On the way, she suddenly asked me: "Sun Jie, I like you, can't you see it?"

I was surprised and delighted when I heard this, and I really shook my head and said, "I can't tell. Are you kidding me?"

She immediately stopped, looked me straight in the eye and said, "Do I look like I'm kidding?"
