Huanghua Lane in the south of the city is an ordinary lane in Jiangjun Town. There is no wine shop or teahouse in front, and no flower shop or silk shop in the back. There are only some old earthen houses with tiles, and there are more than ten families living in them. However, due to the frequent wars in recent years, many people in the town have left. Only two or three widows are left in this lane, and the courtyard closest to the innermost one is where Mr. Shen lives.
I heard that Mr. Shen was nearly sixty years old, but he was in good health and spirit. He had lived here for more than half a year. Although he didn't go out often, it was always a good idea to ask him for advice if there was anything big or small. But Mr. Shen suddenly stopped teaching these two days and sent all the students back home, saying that he was ill and resting. Some people brought egg noodles to visit him, but they were all turned away.
After Lucas Chu and Finn Ye finished asking about the situation, they had some food and, while it was still dim, they walked around a few times and finally entered this alley.
It was late autumn now. The old tree that climbed out of the wall of the Shen family's yard was dying in the cold wind. The withered yellow leaves were all over the ground, and no one came to clean them up. A skinny crow was perched on a branch. It was not afraid of strangers and started waving mournfully as soon as it opened its mouth.
Lucas Chu suddenly smiled and said to Finn Ye, "It's unlucky to hear crows calling as soon as we arrive."
