Grover is an awkward child.
He used his natural arrogance and high self-esteem to build an indestructible fortress and trapped himself within it.
A small character flaw made Grover reluctant to accept the idea of making peace with his old enemy. Thomas could only find a way to guide Grover to take the initiative to tear up the cocoon that bound him.
Then he just had to wait slowly.
When the first ray of light breaks through the dark night, dawn is not far away.
