After the Winter Solstice, the imperial court issued an edict, appointing Yan Song, the chief envoy, with 300 guards, to go to Ryukyu to declare the grace of heaven.
Before leaving, he was given a banquet in Huagai Palace.
He awarded the King of Ryukyu 50 taels of silver, 100,000 strings of banknotes, and 100 pieces of silk cloth. He also ordered the imperial court to make a wooden plaque to reward the King of Ryukyu Shang.
Zhang Yong left the palace and went to the Siyi Pavilion to announce the imperial edict. Afterwards, he dismissed others and had a secret talk with the Ryukyu envoy.
The Ryukyu envoys felt depressed because they were about to return home and had no hope of staying in the Ming Dynasty.
