After checking in their luggage, the group sat in the economy class of a Ukrainian Airlines flight.
There are 24 seats in the cabin, with a rotating escalator in the middle connecting to the economy class kitchen.
During the heyday of the Soviet Union, this cabin was reserved for officials and elites, with an independent dining table in the middle filled with ham, steak, salmon caviar, fresh fruit, red wine and champagne.
But all that is gone.
On the empty table, there was only butter, a row of sliced croissants, and Ukrainian borscht.
