Just as Julian Qiao was preparing to leave home for a long journey, a woman with a big belly came to his door and claimed that she had ruined Ethan Qiao's child and wanted him to be responsible.

Ethan Qiao was out inspecting properties, and the young master Julian Qiao was in charge at home. He was so scared that he told the servants to treat the woman well, and he ran to call Ethan Qiao and asked him to come back quickly.

"Let her go." Ethan Qiao responded coldly, "The child she is pregnant with is not mine."

Julian Qiao was terrified. "Dad, are you sure? Do you want to do a paternity test or something?"

"No need to do it, I'm sure. I broke up with that woman because she was dating me while she was having affairs with other men. Not only did she cheat on me, but she also wanted me to take over? She's dreaming!"

"But...but how? I...don't dare to say..."

Ethan Qiao sighed: "Forget it, you calm her down first, I will go home tomorrow."

The night of waiting for Ethan Qiao to return was the darkest and longest night in Julian Qiao's life. He tossed and turned in bed, feeling anxious and uneasy, as if a thousand ants were gnawing at his heart. Ethan Qiao insisted that the child was not his, but he was not a DNA testing machine, so how could he be so arbitrary? What if? What if?

What if he has a younger brother or sister?

Ethan Qiao didn't like that woman, but the child was his own flesh and blood after all, so he would definitely love him dearly. And how could the treatment of a biological child and an adopted child be the same? No matter how fair it was, there would definitely be some favoritism.

Julian Qiao knew that his father doted on him and he enjoyed this doting, but he always had a secret uneasiness in his heart, afraid of losing it all. Whenever he looked at himself in the mirror and thought of the face on the tombstone that looked very similar to him, this fear would become stronger.

He was afraid that one day Ethan Qiao would find love and no longer want him.

He shivered until dawn.

Ethan Qiao returned home early in the morning and asked the woman to go to the study to talk alone for an hour. When the woman came out, she was crying and left with her bag.

The servants and bodyguards watching were amazed: How did the boss know that it was not his child? And what method did he use to drive her away?

Julian Qiao's curiosity was a hundred times greater than all of theirs combined. As soon as the woman left, he rushed into the study, locked the door, and stared at Ethan Qiao.

"What's going on?"

Ethan Qiao lit a cigarette and waved his hands irritably, as if he was shooing away an annoying fly. "I've already said it's not my child. If you make it clear, she can go away."

"How do you know it's not yours? Can your eyes produce X-rays?"

"My child, it's time to tell you that there is such a thing as 'safety measures' in the world."

Julian Qiao was displeased. Was his father joking with him, or did he really think he was a child who knew nothing about gender relations?

"But C*nd0ms can't be 100% safe, right? What if something goes wrong?"

"No one can ever be sure. I'm 100 percent sure."

Julian Qiao was anxious and wanted to get to the bottom of it. "Why, can you tell me?"

Ethan Qiao hesitated for a moment, looked out the window, and said softly, "I got sterilized."

Julian Qiao opened his mouth in disbelief: "What...what..."

Ethan Qiao put out his cigarette and stared at the ash that was slowly sparking. "I had you sterilized not long after I brought you home. I can't have a child."

Julian Qiao's throat was dry and he could hardly speak: "How come I... never knew..."

"Why should I tell you this?" Ethan Qiao smiled.

When Julian Qiao grew up to this age, the elders in the gang saw that he had no intention of inheriting the family business, so every once in a while someone would come to persuade Ethan Qiao to get married and have another child while he was still young, and train him to be the successor.

Ethan Qiao always found various excuses to refuse. Sometimes he said that he had no intention of being bound by a marriage relationship, sometimes he said that raising children was tiring and one was enough and it would be better for the child to die than to have another, and sometimes he said that he was not a stud and whoever wanted to have a child could have it.

Julian Qiao never thought that this was the real reason why Ethan Qiao didn't want to have children. It wasn't that he didn't want to, but he had no choice.

"Why are you...doing this?" he asked hesitantly.

Ethan Qiao waved his hand, and Julian Qiao came to him obediently and sat beside him.

"You're afraid of killing someone. Why else would you do that?" He pinched his son's face. "I already have a child. One is enough."

"Is it... for me?"

"For you and for myself. I thought I could be fair, but if I really had my own child, God knows what I would do. I'm afraid that you would be neglected and others would look at you with pity, and you would be sad." He paused, "I would also feel sorry for Xincheng's spirit in heaven. I promised him that I would take good care of you for the rest of your life. If I break my promise, how would I face him after a hundred years?"

Julian Qiao's nose felt sore and his eyes became slightly moist. He was so moved that he was speechless. He hugged Ethan Qiao and buried his head in his neck.

"...Dad, you are so good to me." Julian Qiao said in a muffled voice.

There was one more thing he didn't say: Why would such a kind-hearted person like you join the underworld? Just quit, it doesn't matter if you lose everything, when I have a promising future, I will support you.

A drop of warm tear fell on Ethan Qiao's shoulder, burning his heart.

He bent down and K!ssed Julian Qiao on the forehead. "You are so old, but you are still crying."

It was clearly just a K!ss from a father to his son, but Julian Qiao felt as if his skin was burning.
