The imperial capital, Luoyang, itself has no strategic location to defend.
But it is surrounded by strongholds and numerous important passes.
There are eight major passes in total, namely Hangu, Yique, Guangcheng, Dagu, Huanyuan, Xuanmen, Mengjin and Xiaopingjin, collectively known as the "Eight Pass Capitals".
These eight passes guard the capital, forming a terrifying military fortress.
But from another perspective, why does Luoyang have so many passes?
