The ending of the movie is open-ended.
Nan Ke rejected the girl arranged by his parents, got coffee splashed all over him in the cafe, called the hotel and was told that Yu Ning had checked out. He remembered the night he got drunk and mumbled that he wanted to go to the Bund to see the Oriental Pearl Tower.
I went to the Bund for some unknown reason, but I didn't see the person I wanted to see.

This long shot has no lines or dialogue, it is all inner drama, which is extremely difficult, but every subtle expression on Nan Ke's face is very precise.
