Just when Murphy was caught off guard, Grace's voice came from outside.
"Carter? Carter? Are you in there?"
"Yeah!" As if he had grabbed a life-saving straw, Murphy responded with a candy in his mouth, then quickly got up, looked at the man in front of him, bowed, "Thank you." Then he walked out.
"What are you doing? I'm so anxious." Grace pulled Murphy forward, her high heels flying high.
The female staff members around were surprised and called Carter's name in a low voice. Only then did Murphy realize that his hat was still in that person's hand.
Murphy subconsciously turned around and Hayes happened to come out of the bathroom. Their eyes met. Hayes raised the black baseball cap in his hand with a slight smile on his face.
Murphy turned around and asked, "Will Hayes really be in the audition room later?"
Grace: "Well, the actors who auditioned before have seen him." Grace was afraid that Murphy would be nervous, so she comforted him: "It's okay, although Hayes became famous at a young age, he has a good temper and is not arrogant."
Murphy was not comforted at all. This was a character he created. He knew better than anyone what kind of person this young actor who looked gentle and kind was. Why did he have to come up with a smiling tiger character?
However, the appearance of Hayes's character feels strangely familiar...
Grace saw him in a daze and quickly told him to stop thinking, "Hurry up and get ready, it's you next, do you want to take the script in?"
Murphy shook his head, "No thanks."
Grace looked at him doubtfully, but seeing his calm face, she became even more worried, "Don't be too Buddhist."
Murphy nodded, "Got it."
Not long after, the candidate he had auditioned with came out. Murphy took a breath. He had just eaten too much sweets in one go, and his teeth were a little soft.
After entering, he found that there were only two people sitting inside, a man in his forties, and a woman in her thirties wearing glasses. They should be Chen Anping and Qu Qing. The third chair was empty. For some reason, Murphy felt relieved. He bowed slightly, walked to the front of the camera, and gave a simple self-introduction that was not necessary.
Since he came in, Director Chen and Editor Qu have been looking at him, and their eyes are not too friendly. Murphy can see that after all, Carter is a well-known traffic vase with nothing but a body, so their reaction is understandable.
Director Chen had a cold face and didn't say anything. The atmosphere was a little tense.
Murphy was a guy who had no desire to win, so he rarely felt the tension brought by competition. Chen Anping stared at him, and he stared at him motionlessly.
Qu Qing spoke first, his tone was neither hot nor cold: "Have you read the script?"
"kindness."
"Try Yu Ning's recitation on the third page first. There is a notebook there, you can read it."
Murphy hummed, thinking that they might be worried about his poor performance and didn't dare to make things difficult for him. But he didn't reach for the script, he just lowered his head, cleared his throat, looked at the camera, and started directly.
"In June, the hot air on the asphalt road made everything in sight slightly distorted, swaying in the eyes like seaweed. The sound of bicycle wheels spun wildly in the ears, and sweat, warm wind, and blue sky were like oil paint on a plate, mixed roughly."
"Will he still be in that cafe today? Maybe. He was wearing an old black uniform yesterday, but it suited him well. Why didn't I take a look at his name tag? That way I would know his name."
Murphy spoke slowly. His voice was very special, a slightly cold, yet soft boyish voice.
"What if he's not here? What if he's taking a day off today? It's so hot, the sun is burning my spine, it hurts a little. The road seems to be melting, it looks hot and sticky, just like clothes clinging to my body. A thin aroma of coffee appears in the mixed air, I have a very sensitive nose."
"Would you like to go in and get a cup of coffee? Just take a look first, yes, look through the window to see if he's there. If not, go in and enjoy the air conditioning. If he is?"
"Sweat beads appeared on my palms for no reason. I hate summer. It makes me miserable. The window is transparent, and I can clearly see the shape of his smiling lips when he takes orders for others. He is here, so let's go. I tried to pedal, but my feet started to fail."
Murphy looked at the camera and his expression began to become awkward.
"Hello, an... iced mocha."
"I came in anyway. It was all because of the summer. The heat and humidity held my body hostage, forcing me to speak."
"Now, I kind of hate him, just like I hate summer."
"Strong, unbridled, oppressive to my heart."
After Murphy said the last sentence, he was still in a trance and suddenly heard some applause. He turned his head in a daze and saw Hayes leaning against the door frame.
The other person smiled, walked into the room and sat next to Director Chen. Director Chen looked at the extremely handsome boy in front of him, his eyes were still cold, but he didn't seem to dislike him as much as he did at the beginning. He spoke after a while, "When did you memorize the lines?"
"While waiting in the wings." Murphy said honestly.
Suddenly, a familiar voice came out of my mind: "Mr. Xu, you have a really good memory."
This was the first time that Ava took the initiative to initiate a conversation. Murphy replied: "I studied liberal arts in high school, so memorizing things was a common thing for me. Besides, I wrote this monologue, so I have some impression of it."
Editor Qu is not like Chen Anping. The expression on her face is one of unconcealable surprise. Just now, she almost wanted to stand up, hug the clean-cut boy in front of her and shout, "It's you." However, she is just a screenwriter. No matter how well it fits the character, it still depends on the director.
"Your voice and appearance are very suitable for the role of Yu Ning." Qu Qing pushed his glasses on the bridge of his nose. "The monologues of the actors who auditioned just now were missing something. Your monologue gave me a sense of picture."
To be honest, Carter, now in jeans, white T-shirt and no makeup, looks like Yu Ning who walked out of a script. However, acting skills are also a big problem, after all, this is a movie, not a magazine shoot.
Murphy was not good at accepting compliments from others, so he could only lower his chin slightly and said, "Thank you, but in terms of acting, I really can't catch up with others."
Director Chen nodded slightly, as if he didn't dislike this answer. At least he had self-awareness and didn't make excuses for not having a professional background. However, Carter's reputation for acting was really worrying. Chen Anping stared at Murphy for a long time without saying anything, which made him feel uneasy.
Murphy just stood there, but his eyes were fixed on Hayes.
"Ava, is there a prototype for this Hayes's appearance modeling?"
Ava: "Mr. Xu, there is no real person prototype. It is based on the setting of your novel."
This answer was very perfunctory. Murphy couldn't help but keep looking at Hayes. Unexpectedly, the other party seemed to have noticed it and turned his head to look at him.
"Director Chen, how about I try acting with Carter?"
Murphy rejected it in his heart.
