The 28th and 29th Regiments of the Independent Brigade successively captured Tanggangzi and Haicheng, and approached Dashiqiao, where an infantry regiment and an artillery battalion of the Japanese Fifth Division were stationed. By the time the 29th Regiment arrived, the 28th Regiment had already lost nearly a battalion, which had never happened since the war with the Japanese began.
