Che Kung, also known as Marshal Che, was from Wufu, Nanchang. He was a brave general in the late Southern Song Dynasty. He led troops to quell the rebellion in the south of the Yangtze River and was highly valued by the Song Emperor.
At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, the Mongolian army invaded the border. The Song army was unable to resist. Emperor Bing of Song fled south to seek refuge. Che Kung escorted him all the way to Hong Kong Island. He was loyal to the emperor, but unfortunately he died of illness while stationed in Sai Kung.
In order to commemorate his loyalty and bravery during his lifetime, the villagers built a shrine for him at the entrance of Haoyong Village in Sai Kung. Originally it was just a small temple.
At the end of the 19th century, a plague broke out in Sha Tin. Some villagers prayed at his temple, and the plague was eradicated. Therefore, a temple was officially built in Sha Tin and his golden statue was recast. Later, he was worshipped as a deity by Taoism in Hong Kong Island.
Every year on the second or third day of the Lunar New Year, many believers will go to the Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin to turn the windmill, worship, pray and make wishes, and the temple is very popular.
