Ronan's Moonlit Journey Chapter 8

Like local farmers, the school is located in a "garden" surrounded by rivers, with a "bridge" connected to the village road. The two of them did not go to the bridge entrance, but turned to the corner of the house on the left. I suspected they wanted to throw me into the river.

The drizzle kept falling, and the villages in the distance were vast. The color of the ground in front of us became darker, and the areas where water accumulated were particularly bright. We left the classroom and the noisy classmates and came to a shallow ditch. There is usually no water in the shallow ditch. Because it is lower than the ground, people often squat there to defecate. The soil slopes on both sides can serve as a barrier. At this moment, after the foaming of the rain, the soil slopes on both sides have returned to soft soil. Coupled with the continuous light rain in the sky, the place looks quiet and poetic. There is a pool of fresh stool at the bottom of the poetic ditch, and there is still steam (different from the erratic rain and fog). After picking up feces for a year, I knew it was human feces. Chang Hao and Chuanri came straight to the poop without hesitation. It seemed that the poop must have been caused by one of them (both of them had worn my rain boots before). One must have pooped there, and the other saw the poop when he was walking around. In short, both of them had already had the poop in their hearts, so they were so coordinated and in tune with each other.

The first person to go out wearing my rain boots was Chang Hao. It seemed that Chang Hao was good at pooping. The second person to go out was Chuanri, who saw Chang Hao's Sh!t. They all decided to use this Sh!t to teach me a lesson. It was really a long way from the classroom to here.

The three of them almost slipped when they came down the slope. Two shiny skid marks were left on the slope, and I finally stood firm at the bottom of the ditch. Chang Hao and Chuanri carried me toward the poop. No matter how hard I struggled, it was to no avail. In the end, I just stopped moving and watched myself being placed on the Sh!t. Chang Hao and Chuan Ri ran away. I climbed up the slope alone and washed my feet in the puddle. Although they were clean, I still felt like there was Sh!t on my feet. Although there is nothing but mud on the soles of the feet, feces may remain in the feet. I returned to the classroom with this feeling. My clothes were soaked and I cried very sadly. At the same time, I discovered that walking in the mud is not as difficult as my mother said, and of course, it is not that simple either. One foot in front and one foot in back is correct, but your toes must be strong to grip the mud tightly.

There are six people in our family. Except for my grandmother who is illiterate, everyone wears glasses, and all of them are short-sighted. There are circles in the lenses, smaller than one circle, glowing with white light, but the real eyes cannot be caught. Although my grandmother was not short-sighted, she developed cataracts when she got old and her eyesight was not good, so she also thought about wearing glasses. Her view is different from mine. She believes that glasses are a sign of civilization. She feels honored to be in a family with glasses, but also feels regretful and even feels inferior because she is the only one in the family who wears glasses for no reason. My grandmother was timid by nature and never left home when she got old. She was one of the few in a family of glasses. I am growing, and my whole body and mind are open to the world. There are many more people in the world who do not wear glasses than those who wear glasses, and those who wear glasses are only a minority. When I was nine years old, the eyesight of Chinese people was generally better than it is now, and the few people who wore glasses were mostly concentrated in cities. When we were transferred to rural areas, we became a minority or a very small minority. Local farmers have never seen anyone wearing glasses. Even if their eyesight is bad, they don't know about wearing glasses to correct their vision. I started wearing glasses when I was in third grade and almost became a monster in my class. My brother has also been wearing glasses since he was a child, and he started wearing them even earlier than me - he started wearing glasses in the first grade of elementary school. But he was thirteen years old when he was sent down, and he came down wearing glasses. I didn't wear glasses before, but one day I suddenly put them on my nose and stopped taking them off. This change was not a big one, and I ran the risk of my classmates not recognizing me.

My mother took me back to Nanjing to get glasses. The optometrist, wearing a white coat like a doctor, stood behind the chair and gave instructions. There is an eye chart above my head, and the distance reflected in the mirror in front of me is exactly twice the actual distance (using this method to detect a distance of ten meters in a room with a length of five meters). Of course I couldn't see anything clearly. The mirror was very bright, and I could only see some blurry black spots. There was only one at the top, which was also the largest. The spots below were connected into a line, and the lines became thinner as they went downwards. This is a case of naked vision. Next, the optometrist put a pair of special glasses on the bridge of my nose. The lenses could be inserted, pulled out, and constantly replaced. For the time being, I couldn't see my weird appearance. When testing the left eye, insert a black piece into the right eye, and when testing the right eye, the black piece covers the left eye. The optometrist took pains to point to the eye chart in the mirror until I could clearly see the direction of the notches of all the E's in the bottom row, and at the same time I saw my hateful face in the mirror. The special glasses are like a pair of telescopes. The frame is small and round, and there are many appendages on the frame. I look like a little monster when I put it on. After both lenses were fitted, the optometrist asked my mother to take me to the front of the store to get used to it and see if I felt any discomfort. I followed my mother timidly. Although I could see everything clearly now, I didn't dare to look anywhere for fear of meeting other people's eyes. However, it is not up to me whether to see it or not. Everything I look at comes to me with an inch-long light: the counter, the glass store door, the street outside, the sunshine on the street, the shining rims of bicycles. .... Even the sense of hearing suddenly became acute: the noise in the street, the few words exchanged between clerks and customers in the store, the sound of doors opening, footsteps, the clatter of coins on the counter. I felt dizzy, so my mother asked me to sit down on a wooden chair and went to the optometry room to ask about the situation. I am alone in this world of incomparable clarity, on this unquestionable bench, and I think my devilish ugliness must also be clear and unquestionable.

After the glasses were fitted, I did not put them on immediately. I would rather stay in a blurry but peaceful world.

During a school exam, my husband handed me a blank piece of paper, and he copied the questions on the blackboard. Because it was an exam, the seats were fixed, so I was assigned to the third row. I looked forward with my eyes wide open, and the blackboard was blurry. I only saw some white lumps, but I couldn’t see clearly what was written specifically. I squinted my eyes as hard as I could, and the white mass became smaller, but I still couldn't make out the words.
