Hepu Nanzhu is world-famous and has the reputation of "Zuopanzhu". During the Han Dynasty, it was mined by the government and private mining was strictly prohibited.

At the end of the Han Dynasty, war broke out all over the country. The imperial court was unable to govern the remote counties, and more and more people mined pearls privately. From the Three Kingdoms to the Jin Dynasty, wealthy merchants flocked to Hepu to buy pearls. Local people did not grow grain, and more than a thousand people made a living by mining pearls.
