Miss Lin loved the French pastry shop in the west of the city. She would ask someone to buy a box of pastries every morning. She would wrap it in a small handkerchief and take a bite from the bag from time to time. Her father looked down on his daughter's petty behavior and scolded her many times. She didn't like to attend such cocktail parties because they were too lively. She had been studying in Hong Kong. Her family felt that the situation was not as chaotic as in previous years, so they let her come back.

She didn't know many people, and when she came back, her father complained that she was too wild in her studies and didn't have the demeanor of a lady. He also wanted to decide her lifelong affairs and asked her to meet a major general whom she didn't even know. Although she didn't know the man, there were a lot of rumors about him.

Miss Lin felt that her father wanted power over his daughter and was going to sell his daughter, which was too much. Thinking that she would have to meet the major general soon, Miss Lin felt very depressed. She sneaked to the empty balcony, took out some snacks from her handbag, and stuffed them into her mouth in small bites. The noise of the banquet suddenly became louder, and Miss Lin quickly pressed her mouth with a handkerchief and looked back.

It turned out that someone pushed the door open. It was a tall and thin man with all his hair combed back, revealing a smooth forehead and handsome eyes. As if he had not expected someone to be here, the man was stunned for a moment, then he smiled and nodded to Miss Lin.

The man was good-looking and well-mannered. Even though Miss Lin didn't like to talk to strangers, she couldn't help but nod to him. The man walked to another corner of the balcony and stood there silently. Miss Lin thought she should leave. She had been here for a quiet time, but suddenly someone broke in, and it was meaningless. Unexpectedly, the man spoke to her first, in a soft tone: "Do you mind?"
