It was half-burned firewood, stacked over there.
Mason’s heart jumped sharply, and he strode over. He squatted down and reached out to touch the firewood. It was not wet. It seemed that it was left over when the workers were warming here.
Mason quickly picked up the firewood, walked back to Ava and put the firewood in front of her. He got up again, fumbled around in the house, and found some paper, a lighter, and a small blanket.
He took it together, and quickly walked back to Ava’s side, lit the paper and put it in the firewood. He set the firewood up and let it burn quickly.
With the fire, there was a little warmth around him.
