"Ri ri ri---Diudiumon super evolution! Block, dang, clang, clang, clang---block, clang, clang! Derek!"
Before the second physical education class in the morning, Jason, a new high school student, forced Derek to play the "Digimon" role-playing game. He was responsible for being the "chosen child" and even sang the evolution song himself. Derek was reluctantly forced to become a Digimon and angrily denounced this behavior as childish like a primary school student.
"You just want to take advantage of me! If you have the ability, you can evolve too!" Derek said indignantly, "No, you just have the badge and the sacred plan, so you want me to super evolve?"
Jason said seriously: "The badge is imprinted in my heart. It can make you super-evolve without the need for a physical body."
"Then what does your badge represent?" Derek stared at Jason's face and saw that he obviously hesitated for a moment. "You hesitated! I saw through you! You really don't have a badge at all, you fake chosen child!"
The two of them chased and fought while imitating the dramatic and exaggerated tone in the cartoon. Jason kept backing up to resist Derek's dark attack and almost bumped into someone passing by. He subconsciously turned around and apologized: "Sorry... Hey? Are you still using it for class?"
Jason was surprised to see that Logan did not ask for leave for physical education class.
Logan nodded without looking away, avoided the two of them and walked towards the green football field. As he walked, he found that Jason and the others were following him.
Derek asked curiously: "Logan, do you need to take a physical education test for the high school entrance exam?"
"I took the test."
"How many points?"
"thirty."
"Full marks? Really?" Jason interrupted, "You didn't fall asleep that morning?"
Logan was too lazy to answer. He didn't understand why there was anything worthy of questioning about this matter. The brain is naturally excited when people exercise, and physical education is the subject that is easiest for him to stay awake among all the subjects.
Derek: "Jason, how much did you score?"
"Oh, do you even need to ask that?" Jason sneered loudly, pulling his collar a few times in an arrogant manner, "I got 30 points because the full score is only 30 points."
Derek raised his hand to stop him, "Alright, alright, I now know what your badge stands for, 'nse'."
The physical education teacher blew a whistle, walked slowly to the plastic track with a stopwatch in hand, and called the boys from Class 1 and Class 2 to come over for roll call.
"Class one in front, class two in the back, stand in four rows according to height." Teacher Dou put down the roll call list, "You two class sports committee members, step out."
The male sports committee member of Class 2 stepped forward, but no one in Class 1 moved. "Is there no sports committee member in Class 1?" Teacher Dou looked at them, "Come on, who among you is willing to take the position? If no one comes forward, I will pick someone I like."
After waiting for a while, no one volunteered, so Teacher Dou simply pointed at the boy at the end of the first row and said, "You're the one. You don't know how to stand properly. Practice being the sports committee member."
Jason was caught off guard: "Me?"
"What's your name?"
"Jason."
Teacher Dou looked down and found the name on the roster. "Well, now everyone should line up in two rows and run a lap, with two sports committee members leading the team in front and back."
Chengjun's track was a standard 400-meter track, and dozens of boys quickly lined up according to their classes. Jason had never been a sports committee member. When he was in No. 44 Middle School, physical education classes were a formality, and everyone was free to move around. He was now standing in front of the team, and as soon as he took a step, everyone else followed him and started running.
When he ran faster, everyone had to speed up; when he shouted "one, two, three, four", everyone shouted in unison. This feeling of "the pace of others is under your control" made Jason find the joy of being a sports committee member in just a few seconds, and he unknowingly sped up his pace again.
When they were about to reach the bend, Jason remembered the classmate with special circumstances. Logan was the tallest in the class and was also at the front of the team. Jason asked him quietly: "Can you do it? Why don't you switch to the inner circle now?"
Logan frowned and said, "It's okay."
"I'm afraid you might fall asleep and get trampled."
"Even if I feel sleepy, it's only after I finish running." Logan looked calm, "I'm very awake now."
"Oh." After a pause, Jason spoke again, "Why didn't you follow me when I shouted 'one, two, three, four'? What's going on? Are you dissatisfied? Is there a dark corner in your heart that is planning to replace me as the sports committee member?"
... Logan took a deep breath and glanced at Jason with intolerable impatience, "I advise you to talk less, it's easy to get a stitch in the side."
Logan thought he was warning him, but he didn't know that when Jason listened to others talking, he often filtered out the other person's expression and tone, and only listened to the literal meaning. He raised the corners of his mouth, and smiled and said to Logan, "Thank you for your concern."
---I don't care about you at all.
Logan was speechless.
After running 400 meters, Jason's fair face flushed, and his body felt a little hot. He kept shaking the hem of his T-shirt to let the cool air in. Teacher Dou asked everyone to go into the gymnasium. This class was testing the sit-up forward bend. Before leaving, Jason looked back at Logan to make sure he was not sleepy.
The physical education committee members of the two classes took the test first, and then they recorded the data of their classmates. The class committee member of Class 2 was burly, and he had not exercised much since the physical education exam, so the test results were average. Jason was the opposite, with a slim figure, and his explosive power and flexibility were outstanding among his peers. He could push the cursor out 23.5 cm by bending his waist.
"Sure." Teacher Dou laughed, "It's like a flip phone."
Jason was very proud. He then analyzed with his classmates whether the sitting posture was standard and enthusiastically shared tips.
Soon it was Logan's turn. He bent down quickly and decisively - the cursor slid to 24.1 centimeters.
"Wow." Teacher Dou couldn't help but sigh. Jason's grades were already among the best among the first-year boys, but Logan easily broke his record. Teacher Dou patted Logan on the back, "Get up. Next, Zhou Weixi---"
The boy who was preparing for the test had already come over, but Logan was still sitting on the ground with his back hunched, his arms hanging down weakly.
Without thinking, Teacher Dou pushed him, and the boy's body fell to the side. Jason quickly squatted down to support Logan, and when he looked down, he saw that he had fallen asleep with his eyes closed.
Teacher Dou realized something and asked incredulously: "Is he the one your teacher Bai told me about...something called 'sleeping sickness'?"
Jason nodded.
"How long will it take to sleep?"
"Maybe I'll have to sleep until get out of class is over."
Teacher Dou stood up and went to the equipment room to drag out a dark green mat. "Let him lie down and sleep. The floor is cool."
Jason and another sports committee member carried Logan up, and this action did not disturb him. Many people were curious about Logan. After all, there were many students who loved to take naps in class, but it was rare to see someone like Logan who closed his eyes and fell asleep without saying a word. Derek repeated the words of the head teacher based on his memory and briefly introduced Logan's narcolepsy to them.
A boy in Class 2 remembered something and said, "There was also a girl in my junior high school who slept every day and could not be woken up no matter what we did. We all called her the 'Sleeping Goddess'."
"Same disease as Logan?"
"I don't know... She probably hasn't been to the hospital for a checkup. We all thought she just didn't want to listen to the lecture, and it was useless for the teacher to scold her." The boy thought for a few seconds, "Maybe she really has this disease."
Derek sympathized, "Then she was scolded by the teacher for nothing. She just couldn't control her urge to sleep. How pitiful."
Jason quietly sat on the edge of Logan's sleeping mat and turned his head to look at him.
At first, he was also amazed by Logan's strange disease, but after paying attention yesterday, Jason found that Logan slept for at least five hours during class. If he was lazy, he would only take a nap during one or two classes at most. In fact, he would feel tired if he slept too long. He soon realized the bad influence of "narcolepsy" on Logan. He wasted all his time sleeping all day and night, and was often out of touch with the real world.
In the second half of the class, Teacher Dou led them to review the radio gymnastics "Dancing Youth". The get out of class ended just in time for the big break. When the bell rang, the boys dispersed and left the gymnasium, while Jason, as the class sports committee member, stayed behind to look after Logan who was still sleeping.
Before leaving, Teacher Dou told him: "If he still hasn't woken up after the exercise, you can go back to the classroom and I'll call the physical education teacher to come and watch over him."
Jason nodded, and as soon as Teacher Dou left, he unceremoniously pushed Logan to the edge of the mat to make some space for himself to sit.
There were only two of them in the huge gymnasium. The music outside was too loud, so Jason took out his headphones and put them on to listen to music. Recently, all the shops and stores on the streets and alleys have been playing the song "Gangnam Style" crazily on repeat. Jason occasionally listened to it a few times and didn't like it, but when he calmed down, the melody of the song lingered in his mind, it was so magical that he added it to the playlist on a whim.
Jason was reading the lyrics carefully, trying to savor their meaning, when suddenly someone patted him on the back, giving him a startle.
"Awake." Jason took off one of his headphones and turned back to look at Logan.
Logan's eyes were not fully open yet. He looked at Jason in a trance and let out a long sigh of relief.
In just thirty minutes, he had several complicated and bizarre nightmares in succession. Even though his consciousness had returned to reality, his body had not yet recovered from the horror and he was still frightened.
Jason saw Logan raise his hand to lift the hair on his forehead, revealing his clean and sharp eyebrows. He lay lazily on the mat, looking a little impatient.
Logan looked at the ceiling, his voice a little hoarse: "Where is this?"
"The gymnasium." Jason stared at him in astonishment. "Have you lost your memory?"
Logan closed his eyes and endured the anxiety in his heart. After adjusting his breathing, he slowly sat up. His hair was a little messy, so he casually tidied it up a few times based on his feeling. When he opened his eyes again, his gloomy gaze shot straight at Jason.
"Who are you?"
"Ah?" Jason was stunned, feeling that something was wrong. "fcuk, it's over, it's over, you really have lost your memory!"
He muttered in panic, immediately grabbed his phone in a panic, and ran out to inform the class teacher of the serious situation.
"Jason." Logan's voice sounded again behind him.
Jason turned around and saw Logan's breathing was a little heavy. His expression was very helpless when he spoke: "Can you use your brain?"
"Huh?" Jason was slow to react and realized that the other party was just playing a trick on him. He was alarmed for nothing and returned to Logan angrily, pushing his shoulder hard, "You scared me! I thought you might have schizophrenia and awakened your second personality..."
Logan could tell from his serious tone, "There aren't that many such things in real life."
"What if I run into him?" Jason had no doubt about his luck. "The male protagonist was enjoying a wonderful daily campus life...but he didn't expect that the boy sitting behind him was a cold-blooded murderer! This guy sleeps during the day, and when night falls, he---"
"Shut up." Logan rubbed his temple, eyebrows raised, "If I were a murderer, would I be after your money or your s3x?"
"Who knows, maybe you just want to suck a man's juices."
... Logan didn't want to continue this inexplicable topic with him, so he stood up and patted the wrinkles on his clothes, "Is the classroom door locked?"
"Maybe. Don't worry, the break exercises are almost over, now it's time for jumping exercises." Jason listened carefully to the commands of the radio exercises outside, "G, you sleep so much every day, why don't you just hire a tutor to teach you, so you don't have to go to school."
Logan asked him back: "If it were you, would you be willing to be alone at home every day?"
"Probably... I don't want to." Jason thought, "Although I don't want to listen to classes and do homework, I can play with everyone at school. My junior high school is too chaotic, and my classmates always quarrel and fight. It's boring. Chengjun is more like a school."
"That's all." Logan retracted his gaze and walked out of the gymnasium. "At least staying in school is lively. I'm more likely to get sleepy when I'm alone."
Jason put his phone in his pocket and followed him. "Then why didn't I see you take the initiative to talk to others? Are you shy?"
"I just don't want to chat with others about meaningless things. I'd rather do more exercises than play." Logan came outside, his eyes squinting at the bright sunlight. "Where is the canteen?"
"I'll take you there!" Jason was very active, leading Logan to the store behind the cafeteria, and then he went in and took potato chips, instant noodles and AD calcium milk from several shelves. When he turned around, he found that Logan hadn't taken anything and was standing in front of the cashier waiting for him.
"What do you want to eat? I'll help you find it." Jason said.
Logan shook his head, "I'll pay for you."
"It's okay, I can do it myself."
"I don't want to owe you anything."
Jason was surprised, "What do you owe me?"
"You gave me candy yesterday." Logan replied, "I'm returning it today."
"What's there to repay? Didn't you say 'thank you' yesterday?"
"It's not the same thing." Logan said, "Anyway, I don't want to owe anyone anything."
These words made Jason's face darken.
If it was a gift exchange between classmates, Jason would have gladly accepted Logan's kindness. But the other party used the word "owe" to describe something that was not worth mentioning. Jason could not understand his psychological burden and could only say in silence: "You don't like candy? Then I'll give you potato chips."
"No need." Logan lowered his head and took out his wallet, saying nonchalantly, "I'll just give you cash. Yesterday's ---"
"You're really boring." Jason interrupted him directly.
Logan heard Jason's heavy breathing, looked up, and saw that his handsome face was obviously displeased. But Jason did not get angry on the spot, he just looked at Logan deeply, then left him aside and went to the cashier to pay.
Just as Jason could not understand the tiny sense of guilt in Logan's heart, Logan also did not understand why Jason was angry.
In Logan's opinion, accepting a favor from others means that he has to return the favor later, and a simple "thank you" is definitely not enough. Especially for classmates with whom he is not familiar, it is natural to draw a clear line, and his self-esteem does not allow him to take advantage of others.
But since he knew that Jason was angry about this, Logan felt that there was no need to irritate him. It would be a better choice for them to ignore each other. Logan simply put away his wallet and walked away.
After that day, neither of them took the initiative to talk to each other.
