On a house at the end of a small city, there is a stork's nest.

The mother stork sat inside with her four little ones. They stick out their little heads and their little black mouths because their mouths haven't turned red yet. Not far away on the roof ridge, the father stork was standing upright. He retracted one foot in order to let himself experience the hardship of standing guard. He stood so upright that one could easily have thought he was carved from wood. He thought, "My wife will be honored by having a guard standing guard next to her nest. No one will know that I am her husband. People must think that I am standing here under orders. This is really beautiful!" So he continued to stand on one leg.

Down in the street, a group of children were playing. As soon as they saw the stork, the most daring child among them soon began to sing an old song about the stork. But they only sang what they could remember:

Stork, stork, fly away quickly;

Go ahead, today is your time to stay home.
