There is a very cute little fir tree growing in the big woods outside. It grows in a good location, where it can get sunlight and plenty of fresh air. There are many large pine trees and other fir trees around. But the little fir tree was in such a hurry to grow that it paid no attention to the warm sun and fresh air. He paid no attention to the farm children when they came out to look for strawberries and raspberries, walking about and chatting idlely. Sometimes they arrive with bowls full of berries or long bunches of berries strung with straw. They sat next to the little fir tree and said, "Hey, how cute this little thing is!" and the tree didn't want to hear this at all.
A year later it had grown one section; the year after that it had grown another section. So you only need to look at the number of knots in a fir tree to know how many years it has grown.
"Ah, I wish I was a big tree like other trees!" The little fir tree sighed and said, "Then I can spread my branches around and look over my head. This vast world! Then the birds can nest in my branches; when the wind blows, I can nod seriously like other trees."
It showed no interest in the sun, the birds, or the red clouds that passed by in the morning and evening.
It's winter now, and the snow all around is shining white. Sometimes a rabbit comes and jumps over the little fir tree. ......ah! This is what makes it angry!
