As they were not face-to-face guests and there were no outsiders present, the three generations of grandparents and grandchildren sat around a small round mahogany dining table to eat.

Sun Lianping came in to serve fish soup, and Liam Wanqi asked her to sit down and eat with him, but she declined on the pretext that there were other dishes in the kitchen. Servants were not allowed to sit at the main table, and even if the host and she were as close as family, these rules still had to be followed.

Grace has been in New York for nearly ten years, and she seldom went back to China, not even during the Chinese New Year. This was her first time back to her hometown after she decided to settle down in China, so she tried her best to please her grandfather at the dinner table.
