In the 16th year of the Republic of China, I compiled my works over the years into a book called "Adrian Li Yi Tan", which includes: ⑴ Thick Black Theory; ⑵ My doubts about saints; ⑶ Psychology and mechanics; ⑷ Discussion on the examination system; ⑸ My views on solving social problems. In the 17th year, I expanded "My views on solving social problems" into a separate book, entitled "Discussion on Social Problems". Chapter 6 says: "I have my own base for discussing this issue, and I did not rely on Sun Yat-sen. The results I obtained were already stated by Sun Yat-sen before me. I dare not force myself to be different from the truth. So I used what I found in my research as the material for expounding Sun Yat-sen's theory", etc. This book circulated in Nanjing. Shi Qingyang and Liu Gongqian saw it and sent a telegram to Chairman Liu Ziqian of the Sichuan Provincial Government, asking me to go to Beijing to study the party doctrine, but I did not go because of something. When I went to Chongqing this year, Mr. Wu Xinyan said to me: "Your article "Discussion on Social Issues" was published in Nanjing's "Minsheng Daily". Many people said that you have unique views on Sun Yat-sen's theories. You can organize it further and publish it for everyone to discuss." So I organized the original work further and named it "My Views on Reforming China".
"Discussion on Social Issues" has many theories but few methods. I think what is needed now is methods, not theories, so I deleted a lot of the original book and focused on methods. The original book was biased towards economics, so I added politics and diplomacy. Based on the economic organization, the political organization was born, and based on the economic and political methods, the diplomatic methods were born. In other words, from people's livelihood to civil rights and nation, the three are connected as one, and the Three Principles of the People become a whole thing. After the book was completed, I took it to the provincial party committee and asked Hu Sumin and Yan Botong to criticize it. The two gentlemen said: "This book is completely consistent with the Three Principles of the People in spirit, but in terms of methods, there are many places that Sun Yat-sen has never said. If it is published, I am afraid that those with shallow views will misunderstand it. You don't have to publish it." I kept the original manuscript. I am the one who invented the thick black theory, so I will turn back to talk about my thick black theory, so I wrote "Thick Black Collection".
The banner I have raised in my life is the four words "independent thinking". Because of my independent thinking, I feel that the Twenty-Four Histories, the Four Books and the Five Classics, and the academic cases of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties are all flawed. The article "The Thick Black School" exposes the dark curtain of the Twenty-Four Histories; the article "My Doubts about Saints" exposes the dark curtain of the academic cases of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Marx's thought is built on the materialist conception of history; my thought can be said to be built on the thick black conception of history.
Since my thought is based on the thick black view of history, I have to observe human nature in this way. Since I observe human nature in this way, I have to have this method to reform the economy, politics, diplomacy, etc. Today, those who study the Three Principles of the People are immersed in the Three Principles of the People and study every word and sentence. I swept away the Four Books and Five Classics, the Twenty-Four Histories, and the case studies of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties in China, as well as the foreign works of Smith, Darwin, Rousseau, Kropotkin, Montesquieu, etc., and opened up a new path and conducted independent research. The result is consistent with the spirit of the Three Principles of the People, and we have reached the same conclusion by different paths. This proves that Sun Yat-sen's theory is in line with the truth.
Sun Yat-sen once said: "The doctrine cannot be changed, but the policy can be changed according to the circumstances of the time." The doctrine refers to the spirit, and the policy refers to the method. We only seek to be consistent with the Three Principles of the People in spirit. As for the method, everyone can propose some and discuss them openly... Methods are born from theories. My theory is based on the thick black historical view, so I will start with the thick black theory.
