Thick Black Talk Volume 2
[Chengdu Huaxi Daily, September 1 to September 30, 1935]
Someone asked: "You said that this collection of words contains five parts: thick black historical view, thick black philosophy, thick black application, thick black dialectics and thick black invention history. If you don't write them out in categories, won't those who study this subject be confused? Isn't it intentional to make them spend more energy?" I said: "If you want to study this kind of specialized knowledge, of course you have to study it carefully. If you read China's Thirteen Classics and Twenty-Four Histories casually, won't you be confused and confused? A true scholar will find clues from this confusion. If you are afraid to study it carefully, you don't need to study this subject. I only reveal the principles and outlines. Those who are interested in this way can read it first, and compile it in the second step to make it a textbook. This way will be very popular. Therefore, it is the task of the disciples and private students to classify and explain it one by one, not my task."
I published a book called "Adrian Li Yi Tan" before. The articles in it are: ⑴ Thick Black Theory; ⑵ My Doubts about Saints; ⑶ Psychology and Mechanics; ⑷ My Opinions on Solving Social Problems; ⑸ Discussion on the Examination System. Later, I expanded "My Opinions on Solving Social Problems" into a separate volume, called "Discussion on Social Problems", which has been printed. Recently, I have also written a book called "Trends in Chinese Academics", which has been completed but not yet published. These works are a system in my mind, built on the thick black philosophy, but each text is written independently and there is no coherence. Because they are broken up and mixed in the collection of talks, on the one hand, various statements are invented by each other, and on the other hand, talking about psychology and academics is very boring. I put it in the thick black theory, and the serious arguments and humorous words are mixed, so that readers will not be bored.
I have various opinions in my mind, and I don't know whether they are right or wrong. I write them down and ask readers to refute them. The more severe the refutation, the more I welcome it. I focus on explaining the doubts in my mind, not trying to create a different theory. If you have any refutations, I will publish them in the newspaper. I always study them carefully. If I think the refutation is correct, I will revise it myself. If I think it is wrong, I will not argue back, so as to avoid a literary lawsuit, which is not in line with the attitude of studying. I am a person who advocates independent thinking. In my heart, I will never be suppressed by anyone. At the same time, I also respect the independence of others' thinking. Therefore, if you refute my writings, you cannot argue back. If the thick black historical view and thick black philosophy that I advocate are overturned by others, I will let him be the thick black master and worship him as a disciple. Why? Because I obey the truth.
