Isla Ge pulled aside the pearl curtains and leaned against the windowsill to look out. Outside was a narrow balcony. Outside the iron railings was a vast expanse of fog, a pure white, like looking at the sea from the deck. Isla Ge opened her suitcase and prepared to put her clothes into the drawer. When she opened the closet, she saw that it was full of clothes, brilliant and golden. She couldn't help but exclaimed, "Whose are these? My aunt must have forgotten to empty this closet." She was childish after all, and couldn't help locking the door and secretly trying on each piece of clothing. They all fit her. She suddenly realized that these were all specially bought by her aunt for her. Homely brocade robes, gauze, silk, satin, short coats, long coats, beach capes, pajamas, bathrobes, evening gowns, afternoon cocktail dresses, and semi-formal dinner dresses for meeting guests at home, all kinds of colors. How could a female student need so much? Isla Ge quickly took off her dinner dress and threw it on the bed. Her knees went weak and she sat down on the bed. Her face was hot and she whispered, "What's the difference between this and buying a prostitute in a brothel?" After sitting for a while, she stood up and hung her clothes on the hanger one by one. Under the armpit of the clothes, there were small white satin purses filled with lilac seeds, which made the whole cabinet fragrant. Isla Ge leaned in to sort out the purses and suddenly heard a woman's laughter downstairs, smooth and sweet. She couldn't help laughing and said, "I heard from Ruby that today's guests are all old masters and ladies. Whether the masters are old or not is unknown, but the ladies are not only not old, but not even young ladies!" After finishing the meal downstairs, they reshuffled and entered the game, but half of them played the phonograph and danced. Isla Ge didn't close her eyes all night. When she closed her eyes, she was in a trance trying on clothes, one after another. The woolen fabrics were fluffy like provocative jazz; the thick velvet was like the melancholy classical theme song of an opera; the soft satin was like "The Blue Danube", cooling and flowing all over the body. She had just dozed off for a while, and the music changed the tune and she woke up again. Downstairs was playing a breathless rumba. Isla Ge couldn't help but think of the purple electric silk long skirt in the closet, dancing the rumba, kicking and kicking, making a rustling sound. Thinking of this, she whispered to everything downstairs: "It's good to take a look!" She said this, only her lips moved, without making any sound. However, she still reached out and pulled the blanket up to cover her head, so that no one could hear it. She whispered again: "It's good to take a look!" and fell asleep with a smile. The next day, she was used to getting up early, and she washed up and went downstairs at eight o'clock. At that time, the card game was over, and the living room was filled with smoke, flowers, and people. It was chaotic. Ruby supervised the little girls to clean up the candy bowl. Mrs. Vivienne took off her shoes, sat cross-legged on the sofa, smoking, and scolded Clara. Clara leaned against the card table, slowly picked up the mahjong tiles, and threw them into the rosewood box in a random manner, making a rustling sound. Mrs. Vivienne tied her hair in a night blue crepe bun; two diamond pendants appeared on her ears, flashing, as if she was smiling with her eyes squinting; her face was stern. Seeing Isla Ge come in, she nodded and asked, "What time do you go to school? Ask the driver to drive you there. Fortunately, he just came back from seeing off the guests and is not asleep yet." Isla Ge said, "Our spring break is not over yet." Mrs. Vivienne said, "Really?... Otherwise, let's have a good chat today. I'm very tired now. Ruby, go and prepare breakfast for the girl." After saying this, she pretended that Isla Ge was not around and went back to smoking her cigarette.

When Clara saw Isla Ge coming, she thought that Mrs. Vivienne had finished scolding her, so she picked up the card box and left. Mrs. Vivienne shouted, "Stop!" Clara stood with her back to her. Mrs. Vivienne said, "Let's not talk about what happened between you and Qiao Qiqiao in the past. I scolded you so many times, but you just ignored me! Now I don't allow that boy to come to my house, but you still go to him secretly. You think I don't know! You are so mean, so accommodating to him! You are a born girl!" Clara was young after all, and she couldn't get up in front of Isla Ge, so she sneered, "I am so accommodating to him, but he still doesn't want me! I am not a girl, but he still doesn't dare to ask for advice. I don't understand why!" Mrs. Vivienne jumped up and slapped her. Clara just started to throw a tantrum. She shouted, "Who else is playing tricks on you? It's none other than the chauffeur of the Qiao family. You've taken care of all the old and young in the Qiao family. I'm afraid you've already decided on the new son of the seventh young lady of his family. You even didn't let the chauffeur go. Hit me! Just hit me! Don't let me say anything good!" Mrs. Vivienne sat down and laughed, saying, "You tell me! You tell me! Tell the reporters. I'm happy to take advantage of this free publicity. I don't have any elders above me, no children or grandchildren below me, I have plenty of money, I have plenty of friends, who am I afraid of? You'd better stop being confused. I've been the head of the family for all these years, and it doesn't mean that I've been caught by a subordinate. Do you think I can't do without you?"

Clara turned around and glanced at Isla Ge, then curled her lips and said, "It's not that I'm missing out! The substitute has been here for a long time. This time you've finally got what you want. We should all live in harmony as a family, and the wealth should not go to outsiders." Mrs. Vivienne said, "Why are you dragging others into this? You're always talking dirty! I was planning to settle accounts with you slowly, but now I'm too tired and don't have the energy to argue with you. Get out of here!" Clara said, "Get out if you want! You'll never get ahead if you work here for your whole life!" Mrs. Vivienne said, "You still plan to get ahead! I'm afraid you won't even have a place to stand! You think you've been here for a few years and know a few important people, Now you have someone to back you up. I tell you to give up on this idea! I have someone close to the Governor; if you leave me, don't expect to find a job in Hong Kong. Who would dare to take you in?" Clara said, "Is Hong Kong the only place in the world that's as small as dried tofu?" Mrs. Vivienne said, "You can't run away! Your parents will send you to the countryside to marry." Clara snorted and said, "Can my parents control me?" Mrs. Vivienne said, "Your mother is not stupid. She has seven or eight daughters who are asking me to promote them. She wants me to take care of your sisters, so she naturally dare not disobey me and take you back to discipline you strictly." Clara was stunned, and couldn't understand what Mrs. Vivienne meant for a while; after a long while, she stamped her feet and burst into tears. Ruby hurried forward and half-pushed and half-shoved her out of the room, complaining, "It's all because of the young lady that you've spoiled yourself, and you have no manners! You should be more sensible; when the young lady calms down, she will have to prepare a dowry for you."
