Yizhou is not really a prosperous and livable area.
Outside the city wall is the northern land of yellow sand. The Turks have been eyeing it covetously all year round. The war has made this place increasingly poor, so that it can only rely on relief from the imperial court every year.
The huge gap between the rich and the poor means that beggars and robbers can be seen everywhere on both sides of the streets, while just across the wall, there are also dens where rich people live a life of debauchery and spend money lavishly.
If the corruption in the capital is all show and no substance, then here the ugliness of it is laid bare before outsiders.
But this is an indispensable and extremely important strategic location. If Yizhou is lost, the gates of Liang State will be wide open, allowing people to come in and out and wreak havoc.
