The special class starting in the second year of junior high school, or what the school calls the "elite class", has two classes, consisting of the top 130 students in the whole grade. Theoretically, the top 10 students in each class have the opportunity to join this class, but as mentioned earlier, the Experimental Middle School is divided into Class A and Class B. The teaching level of the teachers in Class A and the students' admission scores are much higher than those in Class B. Actually, the resources for the top 130 students are all in Class A. Classes 8 and 9 have 16 and 13 students respectively participating in this elite class.
The advanced class starts at 7:10 pm and lasts until 8:30 pm, mainly focusing on four subjects: Chinese, mathematics, English and physics.
Although biology is a course taught in the first year of junior high school in this era, it is currently classified as a minor subject like politics, history and geography. It is a small liberal arts subject in the science department. It does not account for a high proportion in the high school entrance examination, and there is no need to make special preparations for it.
As for the location of the gifted classes, they are set in specific classrooms by default. Class 1 of the special class will be in Class 8's classroom, and Class 2 of the special class will be in Class 13's classroom.
