During the Battle of Songjin from the end of the 14th year of Chongzhen to the beginning of the 15th year of Chongzhen, General Wang Pu was the first to flee, followed by generals such as Tang Tong and Li Fuming. Afterwards, Wang Pu was killed and he was only demoted.
In October of the 16th year of Chongzhen, the Jianlu invaded Ningyuan and other places. Li Fuming died in the battle, and then Tang Tong came to the rescue and saved the city of Ningyuan. Emperor Chongzhen called him a noble but not a name, and gave him a mang robe and a jade belt.
As for Wu Sangui, the court had already decided to abandon Ningyuan and defend Shanhaiguan. As a result, he kept procrastinating and even decided to use ships to transport the people in the Liaoxi Corridor into the pass. It seemed that he was carrying out the court's will, but he didn't know how long it would take.
If in the original history, Emperor Chongzhen would have become anxious if he could not wait for them, and he would have conferred them the title of Earl, asking them to hurry up and come to the throne. However, he waited until Tang Tong arrived, and the others were still delaying.
For example, Wu Sangui continued to transport Liao people by boat, Shandong Liu Zeqing claimed that he had broken his leg while riding a horse and could not move, and Zuo Liangyu made a marching plan and submitted it to the court, saying that he would only set out after approval.
