The most important part of the capital's expansion this time was the Eighteen Districts of Jinling.
Since the 24th year of Hongwu, 45,000 households of craftsmen, about 200,000 people, were mobilized and concentrated in the southern part of the capital, divided into 18 districts.
This is also the origin of the name of Jinling Eighteen Lanes.
These eighteen workshops include the paint workshop, cloth-making workshop, tofu workshop, bow-making workshop, arrow-making workshop, liquor workshop, brocade workshop, Xiliu workshop, embroidery workshop, carpentry workshop, copper workshop, iron workshop, silver workshop, saddle and bridle workshop, leather workshop, felt-making workshop, machine-making workshop, and Qinhua workshop.
Each has his own duties.
