If Alexander Zhu's request was to exempt all the people of the Ming Dynasty from taxes for one year, Zhu would not be shocked at all.
There is a high probability that they will agree directly.
Anyway, there is a lot of money and grain in the national treasury now, so exempting the whole country from taxes for one year is no big deal.
But, exemption from corvee labor?
Or permanent?
