What is reality?
The reality is that just because the director, screenwriter, and actors think a drama is well made, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will have good ratings and reputation.
TV drama audiences are the most difficult group to understand. Putting aside the cold data, each audience with different tastes can be regarded as an individual of each age group. In other words, to truly know the audience's preferences, we must understand their psychology and their common "cool points" for different types of TV dramas.
In fact, "Swordsman" is just like "Wulin Waishi", both are martial arts masterpieces, both are magical adaptation dramas, and they are even better in various aspects of production, but the ratings and reputation are not good.
In comparison, "Wulin" is much luckier than "Swordsman", as it caught up with an era where "martial arts + romance" is the highlight. It also had the popular young actor Ethan Chase, and two young actresses with great looks and acting skills, Zeng Li and Hu Jing, plus a script that is not too outrageous. All these factors combined to successfully win the hearts of the audience.
