The Academy Awards ceremony, which originated from Hong Kong films, is the most important annual event held in Hong Kong since the early 1980s to encourage and promote the development of local films.
This year's Academy Awards is more meaningful as it coincides with the tenth anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China. Hong Kong films with a local flavor and mainland films with a Hong Kong flavor will gather together to compete for the Golden Cup.
Ethan Chase and Zeng Lai were nominated for the Best Actor and Best Actress awards respectively for their wonderful performances as Ning Caichen and Nie Xiaoqian in "A Chinese Ghost Story: 4 Days of Path".
Their film also received the second most nominations at this year's Academy Awards, including ten awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Action Choreography, Best Sound Effects and Best Visual Effects.
