Maybe there were no ferocious beasts on the island or they were just lucky, but they didn't encounter any danger the whole night. Riley was in a state of nervousness the whole time, fearing that something might happen.

The visibility was too low. Chu Wanyou was glad that they had finished digging up the winter bamboo shoots in the bamboo forest before dark, otherwise, with that kind of visibility, they might not even be able to find the bamboo shoots.

The four of them did nothing but cut trees and collect supplies all night. Riley collected barley, and after consulting with Jasper, he realized that it had a lot of uses, such as making wine, vinegar, and malt sugar. The only problem was that the land was quite small, and the three families didn't get much.

Riley thought that he could try to plant some winter wheat when he returned home at dawn. Since it was not afraid of the cold, he could try to plant it without planting it on the kang.

Other ingredients they collected included wild garlic and snow mustard greens. The former can be used as a seasoning, or fried with eggs or made into dumplings. The latter is also a kind of mustard greens, and is somewhat different from the ones they collected before. This one’s leaves are edible, while the previous one was edible roots. They’ll have to make a note of the seeds later, as they all grow different crops.
