The Procuratorate building was now empty and quiet. Only in the corridor outside the evidence warehouse in the basement was there a faint light. Two police officers on duty were sitting outside, chatting idly to keep themselves from falling asleep.
Suddenly, there was a clattering sound at the door, as if something was rolling across the ground. The sound was particularly clear in the empty corridor. The two police officers woke up instantly.
The two men immediately picked up their electric batons and looked outside the door warily. However, after a while, there was no more sound. The two men looked at each other, and one of them gestured to his companion, meaning that he should go out and check the situation first.
His companion nodded.
The man opened the door, looked out, and then walked out.
