The principle of natural selection and survival of the fittest existed before humans appeared.
The sea monster actually knew that the most direct way to eat more and better was to protect the bottom of the food chain... If Eurybia ate a large amount of krill, the penguins would die due to lack of their main food. The final result would be that Eurybia would only have krill to eat, and penguins, seals, and killer whales would no longer be able to survive in the Ross Sea.
