An hour after the rain, dark clouds occasionally floated across the sky, casting shadows on the earth, covering large areas.
Insects in the wild in summer are singing again, bringing a touch of poetry to this cool night.
On a small slope outside the official road in the southeast of Jiang County, bonfires were burning a few feet away, illuminating the sky and earth in the dark wilderness.
Dozens of horses were tied to the trees outside the bonfire. Some of them stood quietly, occasionally flicking their tails to drive away mosquitoes; others lay on the ground, tilting their heads, closing their eyes, and enjoying themselves.
Between the campfires, there were twenty or thirty oilcloth tents. Some had lights on and people could be seen inside; others were completely dark and only the sound of snoring could be heard.
