A street behind the school is an old railway track. It does not carry high-speed trains, only a green freight train.
The train passes through this area at a fixed time every day, and has been doing so for ten years, as rigidly as an antique, rolling over the land with a loud "rumbling" sound that lasts for as long as a minute.
That railway track is basically in a semi-abandoned state because it only serves a single line and the noise disturbs residents. The city government said it would be demolished a few years ago, but there has been no news of construction work to this day.
After the green train passed by, the campus once again returned to its tranquility as cool as water at night, and the half-soft and half-crisp sycamore leaves rubbed against each other in the wind, making rustling sounds.
The rumbling sound just now overwhelmed everything. Grace Lin asked: "Ethan Lu, what did you just say...?"
