The moon was high in the inky black sky. The snow had stopped and there was no wind. All around was quiet and peaceful. There were only a few dim ground lights on the garden path. A small ball of warm yellow was embedded in the cracks of the stone, looking like a glowing gem or a fallen star.
Maya's face didn't hurt much anymore. The scratches from the sharp nails had formed dark red blood scabs, which had long been numb from being exposed to the cold air.
She stood under the Fengxue Pavilion, staring at the lake in front of her in a daze, "The lake is dark at night, it's scary."
Secretary Fang followed silently all the way and stood behind her, "Miss Maya, please go back to the room."
She raised her chin and craned her neck. "Why do you always follow me? I'm not going to jump into the lake to commit suicide."
