In the 13th year of the Hongzhi reign, after clearing up internal turmoil, he began to expand his power outward, instigating his pirates to rob passing ships and loot villages on the shore. His notoriety spread throughout Zhejiang Sea and to places such as Fu'ning Prefecture.
As their strength grew, nearby small bandits either surrendered to them or were broken up and annexed. They were too tough to swallow and were all sunk into the sea. They set fire to the places where they had camped, and killed everyone, not even a chicken or a dog.
