Lacey did not come to class for two whole days.
Jaxton’s campus life is like a faded oil painting.
Lacey’s seat became empty. Her laughter, her inter-class games, and her “Human Observation Diary” all disappeared without a trace.
Lacey was recuperating at home, and there was no news. Jaxton began to worry about whether something major had happened to her. On the night she had a fever, Jaxton called her home, but no one answered.
Jaxton’s parents and uncle never answer calls from strangers. Jaxton suspects that Lacey’s family also has such rules.
